"How Much Will it Cost?"

The most frequent and logical question we are asked by prospective buyers of new home is... "How much will it cost?"

Answer: "It depends."

Money Saving Tips

  • Plans are necessary to price new construction. Get your final planning done before asking for a firm price
  • A guess on price is all that is possible without plans. Guesses are never right
  • It is less expensive to "go up than it is to go out." Two stories are generally less than one for the same square footage
  • Utilize less expensive space to hold down cost. Space over garages and space in basements can be half of the cost of main level space
  • Interior choices made by owners drive about one third of home cost
  • Cut costs on items that are easily replaceable at a later date. Light fixtures are an example. Save on them now and replace them when you have extra money
  • Shop for bargains. During the six months or so, of construction you will have opportunities to purchase interior amenities on sale. Take advantage of this
  • Spend money on important areas of the home, not all areas. Kitchens are a great example
  • Be wary of price quotes that seem to good to be true. They usually are
  • Be disciplined. Set a budget and do not overspend it

Now, Getting to the Point...

What can I expect to pay for a new home?**

Plan on the following per square foot:

Conventional stick construction- $150+

Full log construction- $175+

Timber frame construction- $200+

**These figures are approximations for turnkey construction. Actual prices could be higher or lower than the above amounts.
